"Hard Power" Lifts National Technology: STEC Participates in Construction of World-class Free-electron Laser Device
2019-02
On April 27, 2018, the launch ceremony and academic forum of the construction of the "hard X-ray free-electron laser device" was held in Shanghai Tech University. Leaders and experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai municipal government and other relevant committees and offices, as well as heads of domestic and overseas major construction enterprises and scientific research institutes, including Zhou Wenbo, President of STEC, attended the ceremony and witnessed the official launch of the construction of the world's most sophisticated photonics research equipment.
At the kick-off ceremony of the project held at the same time, STEC Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co., Ltd., as the main participant of the key underground engineering of the "hard X-ray free-electron laser device", spoke on behalf of the participating enterprises, and said that it would mobilize high-quality resources and summarize successful experiences to continuously make innovation and breakthrough, actively cooperate with all parties involved in the construction, and efficiently push the construction of the project from a high starting point with high standards, building a structural project with millimeter-level precision for the device.
When completed, the device will become one of the most efficient and advanced free-electron laser user devices in the world, providing high-resolution imaging, ultra-fast process exploration, and advanced structure analysis other cutting-edge research methods for many disciplines such as physics, chemistry, life sciences, materials science, and energy science, and forming a unique and multidisciplinary advanced scientific research platform. Together with the existing Shanghai synchrotron radiation source, soft X-ray free-electron laser device, and super ultra-short laser experimental device etc., they will make up a world-leading photonic science center, helping boost China's photonic science research from a follower to an equally matched competitor then to a leader in the world.
