In 1970, STEC built Shanghai Dapu Road Tunnel, the first river-crossing tunnel in China. Supported by the national “863 Program”, STEC researched and developed the "Xianxing" earth pressure balance shielding machine with a diameter of 6.34 meters, a domestic shield tunneling machine with completely independent intellectual property rights. Then, on this basis, it independently researched and developed the "Jinyue" slurry balance shield tunneling machine with a large diameter of 11.22 m. Through the cooperation with other institutions, STEC also researched and developed shield tunneling machines with super large diameters of 14.27 m and 15.43 m. By now, STEC has researched, developed and manufactured nearly 200 domestic shield tunneling machines. They have been successfully exported to Singapore, India, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, etc.
